Tension has gripped Okposi-Ukwu community in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State as residents and family members staged a peaceful protest over the mysterious death of Ebuka Chukwu, a Senior Secondary School (SS2) student of Federal Government College, Okposi.
The protest, which took place on Sunday, September 21, 2025, saw community members holding placards with bold inscriptions such as
“Who killed Ebuka?”, “Evil people are running FGC Okposi,” and “IGP, stop the killings and bring justice.” The demonstrators demanded urgent answers and immediate government intervention.
Speaking on behalf of the grieving community, Mr. Collins Agwu alleged that Ebuka was killed before his body was dumped in a river in an attempt to conceal the crime. He further called for an autopsy to determine the true cause of the teenager’s death.
Agwu also raised concerns over reports that a staff of the college, identified as Mr. Danjuma, allegedly instructed Ebuka and other students to confront hoodlums on the day of the incident. He stressed:
“We want justice to prevail, and those behind Ebuka’s death must be unmasked. The school management cannot continue to play politics with such a tragic case.”
Another community member, Chiadikaobi Obasi, condemned the alleged maltreatment of indigenous students and staff by the college authorities, warning that the peace-loving people of Okposi should not be pushed to the wall.
Reacting to the outcry, the school’s Vice Principal, Mr. Ojima Emmanuel, expressed shock over the student’s death and assured the community that the management would cooperate fully to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, revealed that investigations are ongoing and disclosed that three suspects have already been arrested in connection with the case.
According to reports, the unfortunate incident occurred on July 27, 2025, when Mr. Danjuma allegedly directed some students, including Ebuka, to confront suspected hoodlums, a confrontation that tragically led to his death.
