Enugu Senator Kelvin Chukwu Dumps Labour Party for APC Over Internal Crisis

Enugu Senator Kelvin Chukwu Dumps Labour Party for APC Over Internal Crisis-OXYGIST

The political landscape in Enugu has shifted once again as Senator Kelvin Chukwu, representing Enugu East Senatorial District, has officially left the Labour Party (LP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The senator announced his defection during a town hall meeting in Amuri Community, Nkanu West Local Government Area, where he explained that the deepening leadership tussle and internal wrangling within the Labour Party made it almost impossible for members to function effectively.

“The protracted crisis rocking the LP, which has led to its factionalisation, is seriously affecting members. It is on this note that I have decided to leave,” Chukwu declared.

Senator Chukwu thanked his constituents for their unwavering support since his election and assured them that his commitment to serving the people of Enugu East remains unchanged despite his new political platform.

Reacting to the development, Dr. Ben Nwoye, former state chairman of the APC, welcomed Chukwu into the party, describing the move as a wise decision that would bring positive benefits to both the senator and his constituents.

Chukwu’s defection adds to a growing list of Labour Party members in Enugu who have recently crossed over to the APC. Notably, Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu and Sunday Umehia also dumped the Labour Party earlier this year, citing similar concerns over the party’s leadership crisis.
