Authorities in Harare, Zimbabwe, have arrested a self-styled prophetess after a chilling discovery of human body parts at her residence.
The woman, identified as Rumbidzayi Sanyamvura, popularly known as Madzimai Rumbi, was taken into custody after a 36-year-old woman, Ms. Misoya, died during childbirth under her care. The tragic incident reportedly occurred last Tuesday, but police were only notified four days later.
Confirming the arrest, Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said officers were alerted to a suspicious death linked to the prophetess. Upon investigation, Sanyamvura allegedly led them to a bucket on her property.
Inside, police found a disturbing collection of human remains, including teeth, intestinal matter, an umbilical cord, and blood, which the suspect claimed belonged to the deceased woman.
Authorities immediately ordered the suspension of Ms. Misoya’s burial to allow for further investigation. Both the body and the grisly bucket were transported to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital for post-mortem examination and DNA analysis.
Preliminary medical checks suggested Ms. Misoya may have died from pregnancy-related complications tied to high blood pressure. However, the shocking discovery has prompted deeper inquiries into the true cause of death and the source of the body parts.
As of now, officials have not confirmed whether the baby survived. Forensic specialists are still carrying out detailed examinations.
The case has left the Harare community in shock, once again raising concerns about the dangers of unregulated spiritual practices and home-based medical interventions in Zimbabwe.
