10 Immigration Officers Dismissed, 21 Others Disciplined Over Misconduct-OXYGIST

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has approved disciplinary actions against 31 officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for various offences ranging from misconduct to criminal conspiracy.

In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, the Service Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (ACI) R. Akinsola Akinlabi, confirmed that 10 Immigration officers were sacked following recommendations from the CDCFIB’s Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee (BDGPC), which convened on July 11, 2025.

According to Akinlabi, the move reflects the board’s unwavering commitment to enforcing discipline, integrity, and accountability within the Immigration Service and other agencies under its supervision.

“Eight officers were dismissed for serious misconduct and violation of Service Regulations, while five others were compulsorily retired for offences bordering on misconduct,” he said.
“In addition, eight officers were demoted by one rank, and five were issued written warnings.”

The statement further disclosed that the board also reviewed appeals from some dismissed officers. While two appeals were rejected for lack of merit, one officer was reinstated after a successful appeal, and two others were completely exonerated of all allegations.

In a related update, Akinlabi revealed that the Nigeria Immigration Service had also dismissed two junior officers found guilty of criminal conspiracy, theft, illegal possession of firearms, and kidnapping. Their dismissal followed thorough internal disciplinary proceedings concluded on April 14 and September 4, 2025, respectively.

Akinlabi noted that the disciplinary process was conducted under the supervision of the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the CDCFIB, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, alongside the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap.

He assured that the Service remains committed to upholding the highest ethical and professional standards across all levels, emphasizing that disciplinary measures will continue to be implemented “without fear or favour” and in line with established rules and regulations.
