A new football league, the NextGen Elite U19 Championship League, is set to launch its inaugural edition in Ogun State in November, seeking football teams across the Southwest of Nigeria to register for participation.
The 6-month league aims to identify and develop young football talents across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria, providing a platform for them to showcase their skills and potentially get scouted by top clubs.
Part of the Key features of the League is a U19, with twelve teams (12) expected to participate between November and April (6 months), with a focus on making it a seasonal league.
In a Press Statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, the CEO of NextGen Elite Championship, Oluwasegun Joel, stated that part of the vision of the League is to identify and develop young football talents, while also promoting football engagement and development to promote peace and unity.
He added that the continuous competition will enable young players to have the opportunity to develop their skills and get noticed by scouts, coaches, and top teams.
Speaking further on the aims and objectives of NextGen Elite Championship League CEO boasted that the league will foster competition and teamwork spirit among young players, helping them develop important life skills such as discipline, hard work, and others.
"For talented young players, the NextGen Elite Championship League can provide a pathway to professional football, with opportunities to join top teams and academies". Joel said.
On the expectations of the League, the organisers disclosed that they expect the NextGen Elite Championship League to be a launchpad for young footballers to achieve their dreams and make a name for themselves in the sport.
