Shehu Sani Commends Outgoing Defence Chief After Tinubu Reshuffles Service Chiefs
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has reacted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to sack and reshuffle Nigeria’s Service Chiefs.
Tinubu had on Friday announced a major shake-up in the military hierarchy, replacing key defence heads in what the presidency described as a move to strengthen national security architecture.
Reacting via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Shehu Sani praised the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, for his remarkable leadership and contributions to national security.
According to the outspoken lawmaker, periodic changes in the military are necessary to keep the country’s defence system effective and responsive.
“Periodic changes in the leadership structure of our security services are essential to achieving results. The lack of courage to do this in the past partly contributed to the failures in our fight against insecurity,” he wrote.
Sani also expressed pride in General Musa’s achievements, noting that the people of Kaduna State remain grateful for his service.
“For us in Kaduna, we appreciate the service and stewardship of the outgoing CDS, General Musa. We are proud of his accomplishments and wish him well in his future endeavours.”
Meanwhile, the Presidency confirmed that General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing Musa. Other newly appointed officers include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, while Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
