Why I Replaced Nigeria’s Service Chiefs – President Tinubu Explains-OXYGIST

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained why he approved major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, saying the decision was made to strengthen the country’s national security framework and ensure a more effective defence strategy.


In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the President expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing service chiefs for their years of dedicated service and leadership, while charging the newly appointed military heads to uphold professionalism, discipline, and unity in the discharge of their duties.


“I have approved changes in the hierarchy of our Armed Forces to further strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture,” Tinubu stated.


The new appointments include:


  • General Olufemi Oluyede – Chief of Defence Staff


  • Major-General W. Shaibu – Chief of Army Staff


  • Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke – Chief of Air Staff


  • Rear Admiral I. Abbas – Chief of Naval Staff


  • Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye – Retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence


President Tinubu commended General Christopher Musa and the other outgoing service chiefs for their “selfless service and dedicated leadership,” urging the new military leaders to raise the bar of excellence and protect the nation with honour and integrity.


“I thank General Christopher Musa and the outgoing Service Chiefs for their selfless service and dedicated leadership, and I charge the new Service Chiefs to deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity within our Armed Forces as they serve our nation with honour,” Tinubu said.
